Driving is a huge responsibility, therefore it is essential to pay full attention when driving, as said by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “It’s not about how good of a driver you are. It’s about the 5 seconds you take your eyes off the road. Don’t risk it.”
Nowadays, the majority of drivers get distracted while driving, for instance by texting or talking on their cell phones, and they are mostly teenagers. According to the NHSA, a driver is eight times more likely to be involved in a crash when reaching for an object and three times more likely to crash while eating or drinking. Distracted driving — including texting while driving — is the cause of more than 58% of crashes involving teen drivers.
An accident has occurred with a teenage student here at GAA over the winter break. The student was driving in a small neighborhood and speeding above the speed limit and not realizing the car coming around the roundabout, which caused the car to crash into him.
Driving safely is sincerely important, because by doing that, you as a driver, are saving your life as well as the lives of others. To do so, a driver should obey all speed limits and stay focused at all times, by doing that they are not only avoiding having an accident, but also avoiding hefty fines due to traffic violations.
