Abu Dhabi experienced exciting thrills from November 28th to December 1 including the recent event being UAE’s yearly event of Formula 1 races at the ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX located on Yas Island about 25 km from Abu Dhabi city.

The race was intense with the crowd cheering through the whole event. The main event consisted of 20 participants who arrived from all corners of the world. After the race, the winner turned out to be Lewis Hamilton, a British racing driver from a town of Stevenage, driving a Mercedes who scored 26 points in total. Second place M Verstappen from Hasselt, Belgium driving for the Netherlands scored a total of 18 points.

“It was fun and I enjoyed the races,” said Sophomore from Gems American Academy, Nasim Honeineh.

Many of the Gems students along with students from other schools throughout Abu Dhabi attended the F1 races. Students found that the F1 races could easily be the highlight of 2019 and an event to be remembered by the youth. Apart from the big exciting, annual, sporting event.

Yas Island also hosted multiple concerts throughout the weekend from well known popular artists like the popstar Lana Del Rey and DJ Marshmello AKA Christopher Comstock. It was also planned for a well-known rapper from the United States, Travis Scott to perform but due to legislation problems, he had to cancel his visit. These concerts are yearly events. Last year, UK soul singer Sam Smith performed, and in 2017, folk group Mumford and Sons performed for the F1 race. Tickets started from approximately Dh999 and rise in price depending on the hospitality and access.
