Senior Class Friendsgiving

December 7, 2022
Friendsgiving is about connecting with friends over a good meal. Even if the UAE isn’t home for everyone, friends can make it feel like it! Friendsgiving has been celebrated for years. It doesn’t have to be thanksgiving related, the concept can be shared at any time of the year with any culture. The concept of gathering with friends and sharing a meal is special.
“Friends are like the second family you make for yourself. Friendship makes you feel at home even though you’re not at home.” ― Wilson Kanadi (an inspirational quote creator)
On November 17, 2022, the Grade 12 events committee, with the help of student government and Mrs. Massman, organized a delightful friendsgiving potluck event. It was held during advisory and lunch on Thursday for the senior class. Students brought entrees, main courses, desserts, drinks, cutlery, plates, and cups. The food was spread out on tables in the MPR. Students ate in the MPR and in nearby classes. It’s been around 3 years since GAA held friendsgiving, the last time was pre-Covid in 2020. Seniors were excited to bring their dishes to share with friends. Events like these help seniors enjoy their last year – make memories and ease some of their stress.
I had an interview with a senior, Mathilda O’Neal, where I asked her how she liked friendsgiving.
“It was such a success and I hope the seniors next year enjoy the event just as much!”
It’s safe to say the seniors absolutely loved it. The food choices were incredibly scrumptious. Even teachers loved friendsgiving, and we hope the tradition can continue in the next upcoming years!
